    Description

up for auction is a Rare bronze handheld Signal Cannon of some sort with the initials L N embossed on the rim as seen in my photos above. There looks to be a rock or something stuck in it that I could probably pop out but I'm going to leave it in I believe this was Doug or excavated I'm not sure but it came out of a collection along with a silver Spike that does test positive for silver and there is also some kind of Aztec or Mayan copper money. I'm not an artifact dealer but I did find this stuff all together in a box and bags at an estate and didn't know what it was until I got it home and started looking at it. First of all the cannon must weigh at least a couple pounds if not heavier and is crude but that might be expected of something that old. The Aztec money  has some kind of light green oxidization. The silver Spike does test positive for silver I don't know how high grade silver it is or not but it's definitely at least Sterling but I don't have a way of testing over that, the spike measures just under 8" long and weighs 7.2 Troy ounces. This piece of paper was rolled up with this silver spike in a bag that reads " THIS SPIKE IS CONSTRUCTED OF HIGH-GRADE SILVER THE PURPOSE WAS TO EVADE THE KING'S TAX COLLECTORS BEFORE RETURNING TO SPAIN ABOARD SHIPS FROM THE NEW WORLD. WITH BLACK PAINT THE SPIKE WAS COLORED TO MATCH OTHER SPIKES MADE OF IRON WHEN MIXED TOGETHER IN A CARPENTER'S BOX THE CONTRABAND COULD BE CARRIED OFF THE SHIPS PAST THE GUARDS ON DETECTED. FROM A SPANISH GALLEON WHICH SANK OFF FLORIDA COAST IN 1715" ...... Now I don't have any way of proving that but they were all together so I'm guessing the person or family that owned this were either collectors or had something to do with recovery. any information would be gratefully appreciated. If you need me to take closer pictures I can do that. Please see all pictures and feel free to ask questions.
